About This Item

The Four Feathers by A. E. W. Mason (John Murray, reprint 1965).

Originally published in 1902, a popular work and reprinted many times. This copy with the distinctive dustwrapper by Dick Hart (1920-?), which to my knowledge only appeared on the 1959 and 1965 printings.

Hardback in price-clipped dustwrapper. 316pp. Size: 7.5 x 5.25 inches approx. (190mm x 128mm).

Light wear and rubbing to dustwrapper, no tears; toning to spine and rear panel; lightly foxed and stained to rear panel; price label adhesive stain to front flap. Cloth dusty in places. Booksellers ticket to front paste-down; ghost of price label to lower corner of front free endpaper; edges of page-block age tanned.

Overall, showing light wear but otherwise a nice, clean copy – attractive and very uncommon with this dustwrapper design.

Synopsis

Harry Feversham is in love with the alluring Ethne Eustace. A dazzling engagement ball is held in their honour at her Irish country home. For Harry, it seems like life cannot get any better. But a mysterious package arrives for him and the contents turn out to be three white feathers. Publicly branded a coward, Harry suffers the ultimate humiliation when Ethne adds a fourth feather to his collection. Shunned from society, he sets out to regain his friends, fiancee and honour. Embarking on a deadly mission, which takes him from Ireland to England to Egypt, that tests his courage to the limits and his will to survive.
