Signed by Hughes and one 1935 signature of Albert West. 10.25 x 7.25-inches (26x18,5cm). /Near Fine All correspondence enclosed in original mailing envelopes. 1. December 15, 1961 on watermarked personal stationery after his November 7th gubernatorial win and thanking West for his confidence. The next three on State of New Jersey Office of the Governor Trenton stationery: 2. February 8, 1962 declining invitation for St. Patrick's Day in Boston (with pencil quote on envelope rear from West with copy of his signature from a book ffep 1935 to match handwriting); 3. April 9, 1962 thanking West for 4/3/62 note and how he missed the MBA; 4. April 2, 1964 "Dear Al: The exoneration of the Irish certainly brightened my St. Patrick's Day. Now if we can put our thoughts to clearing Democratic politicians of the usual unjust Republican accusations - the clearance by verse is preferred - life hereabouts would be even more complete...." In New Jersey, Hughes served as both as the 45th Governor 1962-70 and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court 1973-79. Retiring at the mandatory age of 70 in 1979, he practiced law until his death in 1992. Albert West, Esq. was Executive Director of the Massachusetts Bar Association then at 15 Pemberton Square in Boston..
