About This Item

Montreal: Tundra Books, 1978. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. WILLIAM KURELEK. pp:148 [4]. FIRST ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDITION. Pictorial dust jacket, light blue pictorial cloth covered boards. Originally published in Ukrainian in 1890 as 'Lys Mykyta'. This edition is translated by Bohdan Melnyk. In 1975, while on a pilgrimage, Kurelek completed 73 illustrations for the book. Subsequently, he disputed some the content, and held up publication. It was ultimately published posthumously. This is a very good copy with some fading to the spine and the edges. The jacket has tape reinforcing at the folds and spine ends, top and bottom, although there are no tears. It seems to be precautionary. In any case, the jacket is now protected with a Brodart cover.
