Bound in full crushed morocco with gilt detailing. Dated using Jisc, from copies held institutionally. This informative set is comprised of an immensely detailed history of the Franco-Prussian War. A first-hand account of the war, edited by Henry M. Hozier, who was an assistant military attache during the war. With 'Topography and History of the Rhine Valley' by W. H. Davenport Adams. Volume I illustrated with a frontispiece, a vignette title page and thirty plates and maps, thirteen of which are folding. Volume II illustrated with a frontispiece and thirty-nine plates and maps, seven of which are folding. Lacking the additional illustrated title page. Bound in full crushed morocco with gilt detailing. Externally, sound with slight rubbing to the extremities, joints and gilt, particularly to volume I. Slight loss to leather at the extremities. Light bumping to the extremities, with the odd mark to leather. Hinges are slightly strained, but holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with the odd mark. Tear to the folding map facing page 183. Good
