Volume 1: Part I: The Alliance. xvi, [6], 478 pp. Illustrated with 4 portraits of Franklin in b/w, and 14 vignettes of other historic figures. Volume II: Part II: The treaty of Peace and Franklin's Life Till His Return. xiii, [1], 470 pp. Illustrated with1 portrait of Franklin and 16 vignettes of other historic figures. Text clean and unmarked except for usual library treatments. Pages slightly toned. Top edges gilt. Volume I in medium brown cloth, Volume II in dark brown cloth, with identical gilt illustration of Franklin at front, lettered in gilt at spine. Boards lightly scuffed, corners rubbed and bumped, spine tops and tails starting to fray, Volume II with insect damage at top third of front joint. Hinges slightly mobile, but holding, textblocks firm.
