About This Item
Circa 1900. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. A two-volume set of manuscripts, authored by an unknown author and written in French between 1898 and 1907, describes the colors of dyes and dyeing methods used during that time period. Both volumes are marked owned by Roman Lvovich, Chemical Director of the Franz Rabenneck Partnership in Lupino, Russia. They contain hundreds of samples of dyed velvet, yarn, and fiber, as well as the chemicals needed for the dyeing processes. The manuscripts also include instructions on how to prepare cloth, dye bath temperatures, prices for materials and machinery, and notes from the author's visits to Val-Et-Chantillon and Gruchet-le-Valasse, two French towns known for textile production. The manuscripts are a valuable resource for historians of textile dyeing and production. They provide a detailed account of the dyes and dyeing methods used in Europe during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. 8.5â x 12.5â Boards exposed at the corners, staining to the covers, around 10 samples missing. Good.
