About This Item
Free Air by Sinclair Lewis (London: The Readers Library Publishing Company Ltd, [No Date] circa 1935).
The Readers Library published affordable editions of popular fiction in the period 1924-35, cheaply produced but very attractive with their wrap-round dustwrapper artwork.
Harry Sinclair Lewis (1885-1951), American author and playwright and winner of the 1930 Nobel Prize in Literature.
A novel about a motoring tour of the United States and originally published by New York publisher Harcourt, Brace and Howe (1919), this copy a later undated reprint from Readers Library. The British Library (usually reliable) suggests 1932 however the series number of 444 for this title would indicate circa 1935 (No. 433 Cleopatra published 1935*).
Hardback. Publisher's green cloth with gilt title to spine and gilt rules and device to front board. In a dustwrapper with list of titles to verso. pp 251, [3] adverts. Size: 6.75 x 4.5 inches approx. (171mm x 115mm).
Dustwrapper rubbed and worn; creasing and wear to spine ends and corner tips with minor loss; age-toned to spine; dusty and marked in places; head of spine repaired to verso with a stamp hinge. LIght wear and rubbing to cloth; lightly knocked to spine ends, short split in cloth to head of spine/rear board hinge; age-toned and loss of colour to spine. Pages tanned but generally clean throughout.
Overall, showing some wear but otherwise a reasonably nice, clean copy - lovely in its dustwrapper.
