About This Item

Tokyo: Arusu. Good. 1940. Hardcover. In 1940, Japan planned a year-long celebration of the 2600th anniversary of the empire as founded by the legendary first Emperor Jimmu, descended from the sun goddess Amaterasu. To inspire national pride, celebrations, monuments, publications, and propaganda pieces were planned. Several composers including German composer Richard Strauss were even commissioned to write musical pieces celebrating the anniversary. This collection of 105 black and white photos of Mt. Fuji is one representation of the large scale of this celebration. Pictorial boards are quite rubbed in places, soiling to surfaces, gutters are starting to tear a bit in places but binding remains good. 8 copies OCLC.; Book; 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall .
