The passenger happened to be an intelligence officer who was on the boat keeping an eye on a suspected spy - this man tasked Annette with stealing the spy's suitcase, which she did successfully and calmly. Kerner is known for donning many disguises as a detective, posing as an opium addict, a charlady, a society hostess, a modest widow, and more.
