An illustrated first edition copy of James Ballantine's songs and stories, written in imitation of Dickens' 'Master Humphrey's Clock'. The first edition.James Ballantine's imitation of 'Master Humphrey's Clock', a series of entertaining volume of stories and poetry. Illustrated with fourteen plates and in-text engravings.Collated, complete.By James Ballantine, a Scottish author, and a stained-glass artist. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Spine and extremities are faded, a little fading to the rear joint. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine, lighter bumping to the extremities. Light marks and rubbing to the boards and spine. Small crack to the tail of the front joint. Hinges are starting but firm. Bookplate and bookseller's label to the front paste down, ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned, plates are more age-toned, with some spots, heavier to the plates. Good
