[London:]: [Henry G. Bohn,], [1858].. 7.5 x 4.75 inches.. Single leaf from the 1858 edition of Hans Holbeins Dance of Death by Francis Douce & Thomas Frognall Dibdin. The leaf portrays the angel Gabriel comforting Daniel - Daniel VIII:17. with text lines beneath. Excellent woodblock and leaf in excellent condition. Top corners with a little bit of bleed from previous adhesive on verso overall excellent and suitable for framing. 7.5 x 4.75 inches. The reproduction fomr the Douce & Dibdin were cut from wood by Messrs. Bonner and Byfield. The authors aimed to provide extremely accurate woodcut representations of the original Holbein designs to readers. This leaf shows the clarity of line and beautiful use of light and shade which Holbein had achieved in his original work .
