About This Item

Munich: Albert Langen, 1904. Folio. 11.25 x 15.25 in. 32 leaves, with 30 colour plates. Blue pictorial publisher’s cloth, striking front cover art of Belle Epoque couple promenading for the evening (minor shelfwear, rubbing, expertly rebacked w/ original laid-down, flyleaves renewed), still VG- bright copy. First edition, 4th-6th thousand, of this often daring, sexy and occasionally racist, album of plates. Reznicek’s (1868-1909) wonderfully sarcastic, and yet nicely executed Art Nouveau scenes portray lascivious theatre attendees, performers, escorts, and others in fin-de-siecle Vienna.
