About This Item

Paris: Maison Martinet, Hautecoeur Frères. Ephemera. Good. 39 individual and meticulously hand-colored, gilt edged lithograph plates neatly removed mostly from Volume 2 with only two plates from Volume 6, Paris, Maison Martinet, Hautecoeur Frères, c.1844–50, n.p., 6.5 x 10.25”, French text. Considered to be the most important French artists gallery of the 19th century, predominately featuring French female actresses and some male actors as well as scenes depicted from specific plays. Individual vertical plates (a few landscape) with actors name, character played, theatre performance and theatre name. Lithography by Jules Rigo “Imp Jules Rigo et Cie Rue Richer, 7” with many signed or initialed on stone “A. Lacauchie or A.L.” Loose plates include numbers: 103, 105, 106, 107, 110, 111, 113, 117, 121, 125 (torn with paper loss to corner), 126, 129, 130, 131-132 (double page, numbered as two plates), 134, 141-142 (double page, numbered as two plates), 149, 150, 153, 154, 158, 159, 160, 161-162 (double page, numbered as two plates), 163-171, 174, 176, 178, 179, 503, 529. A few printed on different quality paper stock. Overall, moderate soiling and edge toning and some with light stains and rough edges. Despite some wear, still a very attractive collection of brightly colored lithograph prints which have become increasingly difficult to find as complete volumes.
