The third children's book by Erika Mann, written in exile in California. In a drastic tightening in the face of the war, Erika Mann wrote a breathtaking political youth novel in 1942 in the USA with echoes of Erich Kästner's Emil and the detectives: children from all over the world, refugees before the war, find their new home in a reform school in California. But peace is deceiving. The mysterious Mr. X is supposed to carry the terror into the United States, among them. The youthful Gang of Ten is on his trail - and a race against time begins.
