London: Dean and Munday., 1822. First edition. Paperback. Good. 12mo. Original blue paper covers with vignette on upper cover. Frontis and 14 half-page engravings with contemporary hand-colouring. Published between 1814 and 1822. With presentation inscription dated March 23rd 1823 and a further inscrtption dated 1912. Worn and marked, cover split along spine and detachd, frontis detached and frayed, The two page printed directions bound at rear, the second page detached and torn with loss, thumbd and soiled. The title-page calls for 16 engravings. However the details of another copy are given below. DR. With proper directions for playing the game, and crying the forfeits, London: Dean and Minday and A.K. Newman, [c.1822]. 8° (180 x 109mm). 13 hand-coloured engraved illustrations. (A few light spots and thumbmarks.) Original printed wrappers with wood-engraved classical garland on upper wrapper, publisher's advertisement on lower wrapper (wear to spine, edges rubbed, some light soiling to upper wrapper). Osborne I, 220 lists a copy "Embellished with sixteen colored [sic] engravings". The present copy, however, has "Embellished with fifteen coloured engravings" printed on the title. In fact, it appears to be complete with just 13 illustrations which are fully paginated.
