London: The Garden Illustrated Weekly, 1915. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Quarto. viii, 632 pages. Hardcover bound in original green cloth with cover titles in gilt. Light to moderate wear to the binding. Gilt is bright. A sound copy with secure inner hinges. The text is a little toned but generally clean. CONTAINS 2 COLOR PLATES as well as with black and white text drawings and images from photos. Early owner's inscription on the first issue's title reads, "Dr. G. C. Lippincott, U.S.N. / Salem, N. Jersey." George Coote Lippincott (1850-1951) was a doctor who was on active duty with the U.S. Navy in the 1870s-1880s. He was stationed at several naval bases and academies and spent a number of years at sea. In 1878 he was on board the U.S.S. Vandalia as surgeon in the Mediterranean when U.S. Grant and his wife were on board as part of their world tour.
