About This Item
Washington, D.C.: GPO Magazine. Good. Soft cover. pp567-590. Removed from ANNUAL REPORT OF THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION, FOR THE YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 1899. VG. In plastic report covers. The writer was rector of the University of Rostock. He bemoans the fact that his institution does not have a botanical garden. He says it is striking because for a long time the botanical garden has been considered as evidence that botany is properly pursued in a university. He continues: "Today I would rather discourse to you of the generally understood, practical side of my department and relate in brief the development of the garden with reference to style and architecture." He then describes the elements of gardens from the time of the Egyptians..
