About This Item
Synopsis
Cormac McCarthy's screenplay tells the tale of the tangled fates of two families of Graniteville, South Carolina, in the years following World War II. The story is about the Greggs, a wealthy family that owns and operates a local cotton mill, and the McEvoys, a family of mill workers. A young man, Robert McEvoy, has his leg amputated due to an accident that is purported to have been caused by one of the Greggs. Crippled and bitter, he leaves home and only returns at the news of his mother's illness.
