London: Longmans, Green & Co, 1905. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. London, Longmans, Green & Co, 1905. Octavo, xii, 404, 40 (publisher's catalogue) pages plus 25 plates and a folding chart. Cloth; top edge gilt, others uncut; covers a little flecked, rubbed and unevenly sunned (chiefly on the spine); endpapers and preliminary leaves browned; a few trifling marks; pencilled ownership signature; a very good copy. With the pictorial bookplate ['Gang forward'] of [Sir] Edward Charles Stirling on the front pastedown, and the gift inscription (dated 8 September 1905) signed by prominent Melbourne surgeon Frederic Dougan Bird (1858-1929).
