Volume One includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont , Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, an d Illinois. VG- condition. The corners have light bumps and rub marks . Mild soiling and tanning to the outer edgse of the cloth covers. The re is damp stain at the bottom edges of the middle seam and along the gutters of the first sixteen pages. Otherwise content is clean, tight & unmarked. Shipping weight is nine pounds. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons for The Garden Club of America, 1934. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good/Fair. Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. Folios. xxii, 464; xxi, 433 pages. Hardcovers bound in green cloth and with green printed dust jackets. The jackets show heavy wear and have several large edge tears, chips and creases. Jackets soiled from handling. The bindings of the book show moderate rubbing and wear. The edges of the text blocks are foxed, and there is foxing to the half titles and title pages. The text itself is generally clean. There is a gift inscription on the half title to Volume II which reads, "Charles H. Merryman / with every good wish for Christmas & the New Year / Florence Bratenahl / Christmas, 1934." Charles Merryman was a landscape architect in Bethesda, Maryland who was the grounds superintendent of the Washington Cathedral. He also managed the "Weathered Oak Herb Farm" in Bethesda with Florence Hall Bratenahl (1884-1940).
