Paris, 1922. First edition. Edited by Arthur Moss and Florence Gilliam. Contains Crane's poem "The Fernery" . Wrappers, very good.
This issue contains "The Fernery" by Hart Crane, a 10-line poem that differs considerably from the version later published in "White Buildings:" The lights that travel on her spectacles / Seldom, now, meet a mirror in her eyes / Zigzags are fast around the lips composed / To darkness; - and as I have raised a shade / Beside her and her fernery, I have seen them / Suddenly join into a wreath of pain. / stanza break / And while light splintered the humid green / I have known myself a nephew to confusions / That sometimes take up residence and reign, / Crimped in grey crowns of tidy borrowed hair. This version not cited in Schwartz & Schweik. Also contains work by Nina HaMNET, James Stwephens.
