About This Item

Chicago, IL: Stephen Daiter Gallery, 2015. First Edition. First Printing.. Softcover. As New/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. Chicago, IL: Stephen Daiter Gallery, 2015. Softcover. As New/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 23 pages. Exhibition Catalog. One of Gary Schneider's finest achievements. The first and only edition. Published in a small and limited print run as a softcover original only. There is no ISBN. The Exhibition Catalog is now rare. An austerely elegant production by Stephen Daiter Gallery and Gary Schneider: Small-size volume format. Pictorial softcovers with black titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs and text by Gary Schneider. Printed on pristine-white, uncoated stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is exemplary in every respect. Without DJ, as issued. Published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name held at Stephen Daiter Gallery Chicago from September 10 through October 31, 2015. Presents Gary Schnedier's "Self-Portrait 1975-2015". Extreme closeups of the artist/photographer's hair from his various body parts. Schneider, it is fair to say, is a hairy dude. His Conceptual approach to the portrait by probing his (and other people's) body has a sensuous, even erotic dimension. "I strive to marry art and science, identity and obscurity, figuration and abstraction, the carnal and the spiritual" (Gary Schneider). Now complete in this Catalog, the first sequence of the "Hair" self-portraits was shown at Art Basel 2013. A signed copy of the Souvenir Announcement is included. An absolute "must-have" title for Gary Schneider collectors. This copy is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed and dated in pencil by the artist/photographer: "2019 Gary Schneider". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. It also comes with a pristine copy of the Art Basel Souvenir Announcement, also very prominently, neatly, and beautifully signed in pencil by Gary Schneider. This title is a contemporary art photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy (with signed Art Basel Souvenir Announcement) of the Exhibition Catalog available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare signed set thus. 23 color plates. One of the most brilliant artist/photographers of our time. A fine set. (SEE OTHER GARY SCHNEIDER TITLES IN OUR CATALOG).

About Modern Rare

ModernRare.com is exclusively an online bookstore. We believe this is the best way to satisfy our customers' expectations. We specialize in modern firsts, photography, the arts, and erotica. You will also find a fine selection of signed copies, limited editions, and memorabilia because our ultimate goal is to deepen the pleasure of collecting books. We carry titles that we ourselves like and believe in -- books that we think will excite, enchant, and endure.
