Contemporary half-cloth, marbled boards, lettered in gilt. Extremities worn and marked, joints split, spine sunned. Hinges exposed, ink library stamps and shelf-marks to half-title and title page, scattered foxing. The first edition of German chemist Robert Bunsen's (1811-1899) pioneering work of analytical chemistry, documenting the revolutionary techniques he developed in his study of the chemical composition of gases. . First edition. 8vo.
