Book in very good condition, cloth clean, edges slightly rubbed, tiny bit of wear to both upper corners of boards, fore-edge of text bock faintly foxed, two pages have light stains; color-illustrated dj good (chips and wear to edges, tears), price intact. Color illustrations by Ward including front and rear endpapers, 5 full-page and 1 double page; 70 text illustrations in b&w. Story of boy Giorgio Terni who restores the health of half-Arabian mare Gaudenzia and rides her to victory in the dangerous annual horse race in Sienna - the Palio - in all its rich, medieval pageantry. ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 240 pages .
