Octavo, scuffed leathee over boards with new spine and new red leather spine label. viii + (unpaginated, but about 360 pages) Ex-library, Harvard Business Library and Baker Library with cancelled stamp. Some foxing/brown spotting throughout. Printed in two columns. "The compiler has, during the past year, visited t greater part of t he most considerable towns in the United States, and has corrected and enlarged his former information, by personal observations and inquiry...The accounts of the principal literary institutions are much more particular than any before published... Almost every considerable public library in the United States is noticed. The enumeration of academies, with regard to most of the states, is tolerably complete." Worcester is also well-known for his dictionaries and the "Dictionary Wars" woth Noah Webster and G. C. Merriam Co.
