Salt Lake City: Salt Lake Herald" Publishing Company, 1874.. [5],17-326pp. plus 10pp. of advertisements (including pastedowns) and folding color map. Original blindstamped cloth, spine gilt. Cloth slightly discolored, hinges starting. Overall very good. The "Gazetteer" portion of this volume contains a "Sketch of Mormonism," an extensive historical timeline for Utah, and a great deal of additional information on the state's history, geography, government, industry, etc. The directory lists both organizations and individuals, the latter with their professions and places of residence. A twenty-five-page business directory and advertisements throughout the volume provide important information on business activity in pre-statehood Utah. The folding frontispiece features maps of Utah, Salt Lake City, and the Great Salt Lake Valley. In this copy an advertisement for the SALT LAKE HERALD has been pasted over a portrait of Brigham Young in the lower right corner. FLAKE 7756.
