About This Item

Georgia, 1935. SARAZEN, Gene. Georgia: 1935.

Black and white photograph signed "Gene Sarazen" in black ink on bottom. (Measures 9 3/4 x 7 1/2"). Photograph of Sarazen alone on the course, dropping one of his putts that leads him to the Masters in Augusta, Georgia on April 9th, 1935. He is surrounded by elegantly dressed spectators as he sinks his putt into the 9th green during his thirty-six hole play off. Catching up to Craig Wood who wholed a 4-wood second shot on the par-5 15th for a double eagle. Sarazen parred in from there then beat Craig Wood in a playoff the following day. The double eagle is "the shot that was heard around the world" and is one of the most famous single golf shots in history.
