About This Item
New York: Mitchell Kennerley, 1913. First Edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Slipcase: Near Fine. 8vo, maroon cloth with gold lettering on spine, [x] + 119 pages. Slipcase: Quarter maroon leather over red cloth. Nicholas Vachel Lindsay (1879 - 1931) was an American poet. He is considered a founder of modern singing poetry, as he referred to it, in which verses are meant to be sung or chanted. Lindsay's fame as a poet grew in the 1910s. Because Harriet Monroe showcased him with two other Illinois poets-Carl Sandburg and Edgar Lee Masters-his name became linked to theirs.

American composer Charles Ives wrote music to "General Wiliam Booth Enters into Heaven" (with minor text alterations) shortly after its publication. The "General " named was the founder of the Salvation Army.

Solid, clean copy without annotations. Gilt on spine of book and slipcase has faded. Previous owner's bookplate and inscription to her on front free endpaper. Impress of a paperclip at the top of the title and facing page. Small sales' stamp on rear pastedown.
