About This Item

New York: Harper and Brothers, 1955. First Edition. First Printing. 8vo. 21.5cm x 15cm. Publisher's black cloth spine over grey cloth boards. Dustjacket. Titled and decorated in gilt to spine and front board, light bumping to spine ends, some of the gilt a trifle dulled, in a clean, strong, pricelipped dustjacket, a touch faded to the spine panel,a small closed tear to the front panel, and with some abrasion and two pinholes to the lower edge of the rear panel. A very good copy. 168pp. Internally clean. Fore-edge untrimmed. An unsurprisingly philosophical and exploratory novel dealing with the tangled lives of a Nobel winning genius, his wife, and the man who came between them.
