Dublin: The Talbot Press, 1934. Cloth. Good+. FIRST EDITION, 8vo, incl. silhouette frontis and tail-pieces, plus full-page illustrations, by Kathleen Verschoyle, two coloured by an amateur hand. Original publisher's blue cloth, spine and upper board lettered and ruled in navy. Extremities bruised. Edges foxed. POIs to ffep, some fox spots and marks to margins, two illustrations coloured by a PO. In the original faun and black silhouette dust jacket: creased, rubbed and soiled, chipped at spine ends, mark to front panel, amateur taping to reverse of spine. Very good/ good+ A well-loved copy of Lett's charming gentle mountaineering novel for children: "I have put an imaginary household and imaginary children on the slopes of Slieve Gullion, that lovely, hero-haunted mountain which has known Finn and Saint Patrick, faery women and great warriors." (Foreword). The prolific and popular Salford-born playwright, poet and novelist, Winifred Letts (1882�1972) was, early on, embedded in the Irish Literary Revival, through her work with the Abbey Theatre and Cuala Press. Later on, she wrote war poetry and a number of children's novels. Her collaborator, the illustrator Kathleen Verschoyle was Lett's sister-in-law.
