London: Elliot Stock, 1884. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo. Contemporary calf spine over cloth boards.xvi, 331 p.p., [2] p.p. ads. Light rubbing to boards, edges. Spine and joints worn. Light staining to middle rear board. Corners gently bruised. Front inner hinge cracked. Some trimmed pages to bottom edges. Sporadic foxing, otherwise in very good condition. This collection is divided into Days and Seasons, Superstitious Customs and Beliefs and Witchcraft throughout England. George Laurence Gomme [181853-1916], was a British folklorist and secretary to the Folklore Society. This volume includes some popular superstitions, charms folk-remedies and folklore from Hair of the Same Dog, Mine Knockers, April Fools Day,Second Sight, The Faculty of Abrac [Abracadabra] and more.
