Best-selling jazz-age comedic fiction famously turned into a 1953 film starring Marilyn Monroe & Jane Russell. Originally published in 1925, this is the Seventh printing of this Boni & Liveright edition from Jan. 1926, in 217 pages, "intimately illustrated" by caricature artist Ralph Barton. Brentano's bookstore sticker inside rear cover. With red-marbled over quarter-bound red cloth boards, this small hardcover is in Good condition: generally clean & tightly bound, pages creamy white with tanning to outer edges. All exterior page edges & endpapers show heavy foxing. Corners are bumped & there is heavy rubbing to the lower extremities. Former owner's bookplate inside front cover; NO writing/underlining/highlighting; not ex-lib. Synopsis
Anita Loos was born in California in 1888. She began writing movie scripts and supplied film scenarios for D.W. Griffith and Douglas Fairbanks. First published in 1925, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes was a best-seller in thirteen languages and was followed by its sequel, But Gentlemen Marry Brunettes . Anita Loos was the author of the novels A Mouse is Born and No Mother to Guide Her and two volumes of autobiography, A Girl Like I and Kiss Hollywood Good-by . She died in 1981.
