Very well illustrated, including watercolours by Pandora Sellars and Carol Woodin, and many colour photographs of plants in the wild, large octavo, pp x, 428, fore-edge very slightly foxed, dustwrapper a little age-toned, and very slightly worn, endpapers a little marked, otherwise a very good copy in a very slightly worn slipcase. Signed by the author. [Paphiopedilums are, and have been since the early nineteenth century, one of the most popular of all orchid groups and are now widely grown throughout the world. There are almost 70 known species, all of which have their own attractive qualities appealing to growers, but many species are rare in the wild. Recent evidence has been synthesized to produce a modern classification of the genus. Chapters on the hybridization, cultivation (by Michael Tibbes), and conservation are also included.
