About This Item

Cincinatti, OH: Looker, Reynolds & Co.. Fair with no dust jacket. 1819. First Edition. Hardcover. Calf-wrapped boards and string binding. Leather is raw-looking and attached to boards with string on interior of boards. A few small tears and holes in leather on front board. Twine holds boards together and also binds pages, though missing through last 1/3 of text block which creates looseness between rear board and pages. Pages held together with a separate run of thread. Previous owner's signature on FFEP, along with some faded pencil writing which reappears on back of rear board and looks to be contemporary lists of supplies and prices. Pages show heavy to moderate browning and foxing and rough cutting along bottom edge. Binding and cutting is possibly an amateur job but is still contemporary. Dana was a land agent engaged in exploration for purposes of emigration and settlement in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan Territory. His experiences resulted in the publication of this guide. Howes D-47.; 7.5" x 4.5"; 312 pp .
