About This Item
"GEORGIA SCENES" - Characters, Incidents, &c., in the First Half Century of the Republic by "A Native Georgian" (Augustus Baldwin Longstreet). Circa 1870's (there is no date of publication stated), 2nd edition (stated); Harper & Brothers; New York. The book contains numerous full-page illustrations. Please see the photos for the complete list of contents.
From the Preface: "(The stories) consist of nothing more than fanciful combinations of real incidents and characters; and throwing into those scenes, which would be otherwise dull and insipid, some personal incident or adventure of my own, real or imaginary, as it would best suit my purpose; usually real, but happening at different times and under different circumstances from those in which they are here represented. Some of the scenes are as literally true as the frailties of memory would allow them to be."
Condition:
Some light scuffing to the cloth at the top and bottom edges of the front cover; clean back cover and spine; tiny cloth tears at the corner tips. Bright gilt lettering on the spine. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Nice interior - the pages are clean and nearly appear unread with only a tiny tear at the outer edge of page of 169. Overall the book is in Very Good+ condition.
