Using a newly discovered cache of Wagner family letters, the author examines the lives of the brothers as they sought to make better futures for themselves and raises the question whether the U.S. is a collection of separate immigrant cultures or whether those cultures become assimilated in the famous "melting pot." With much on San Antonio, New Braunfels, Robert Kleberg, early homesteads at the Twelve-Mile-Coto Creek, between Steiner's Settlement and Myersville where Kleberg and Julius Wagner were close friends.
