About This Item
Dublin & London: Maunsell and Company Ltd, 1917. The Belfast-born journalist Robert Wilson Lynd (1879-1949) was well-known in Irish literary circles. This is his fifth published book. Originally published in the "The New Statesman," Lynd's title essay achieved some notoriety when it was cited by the insurgent Irish nationalists of the Easter Uprising of 1916. This is a Very Good (Plus) to Near Fine copy of the First Edition. Green paper-covered boards with a linen spine and a paper label. 25 essays. Clean text; 158 pages, with a six-page "Selection from Maunsel's Anouncements" in the rear. Two bumps to the front edge and a bit of darkeneing to the spine, else this would be a Fine copy. There is a dustwrapper present, but it is obviously a homegrown effort, with a window roughly cut out on the spine to show the label. and is in rather rough condition. Quercus includes it, nonetheless, as it has presumably been with the book for quite a long time. In an archival plastic protector. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good Plus/Good.
