Friedrich Gottlob Hayne (1763-1832) was a German botanist, taxonomist, pharmacist and professor. Getreue Darstellung is his masterpiece, published over 30 years from 1805 to his death, and completed posthumously by his widow in 1837.

Friedrich Guimpel (1774-1839) was a German engraver and botanical artist. Professor at the Berlin Academy of Arts, he collaborated with botanists including F.G Hayne, C.F. Otto and K.L. Willdenow.

Bound in half ivory vellum with gilt title on spine, marbled boards and endpapers, all edges dyed red. Internally spotless with striking botanical copperplates in vibrant hand-colour.
