About This Item
Sydney: Lothian Books, 2006. Hardback large quarto, dustjacket, very good condition (in very good dustjacket), colour & black & white photos (including frontispiece), light foxing reverse side jacket (minor edgewear), closed tear top edge rear cover, few tiny dents front cover & jacket, spine ends little rubbed. Heavy (1.3 Kg), and extra postage may be requested to destinations outside Australia. 232 pp. Robin Bromby reports on Australian railroads that are now deserted. Dajarra in Queensland, just a dusty settlement in the middle of nowhere, was once a railhead that handled more cattle than even the fabled Abilene in Texas. On the Ravensthorpe line in Western Australia, trains in the past would stop to allow locals to pick wildflowers - now they don't run anymore. The stories of the vanished people who tended the railroads and trains and the places are illustrated by a wide variety of photos, many never published before. A wonderful book for all interested in Australian history.
