The folding map present and in near fine condition, contents clean. Very good condition. Early printing of Mark Twain's first novel, the only one written with a collaborator and first published in 1874. The book satirizes greed and political corruption in post-Civil War America, and describes an age of materialism and excess (particularly the lust for becoming rich through land speculation). The novel gave the era its nickname: the period of U.S. history from the 1870s to about 1900 is now referred to as the 'Gilded Age'. Scarce in this edition and beautifully restored. Early Issue. Quarter leather.
