Dingbat Press, 1959. Very Good. Two vintage non-nude pin-up magazines devoted to glamor modeling & 35mm photography, much of the imagery the work of notorious snapper Earl Leaf, w/ text on photography techniques, modeling, fiction, cameras, & Beatnicks. Ties to other Leaf output, including Bonzana Publishing titles "Glamor Photography," and notably "Girl Watcher," a 2-issue humorous "guide to girl watching," controversial title in that its entries on watching, stalking, and "collecting" girls from the neighborhood have endured some criticism on questionably morality. Most of the articles about girl watching have little serious intent with regard to actual crimes against women, and the intro blurb states: "Dedicated to all Serious Scholars and Connoisseurs of Beautiful Women." Being that much of the content is the work of photographer Earl Leaf, it can be presumed that "girl watching" simply means capturing women candidly or professionally on camera as a professional photographer with professional models. Both this title and "Girl Watcher" only a handful of issues produced.Arguably a high-point of men's magazine collecting, w/ the "Girl Watcher" series second issue featuring Bonnie Logan & June Wilkinson, a cover capitulating glamour model society; perhaps no other men's magazine has done this, & what better models to represent the mystique, draw, and ideals of mid-century subculture: professional "girl watching."[V1 N1], September 1959: Pat O'Connell & Shawn Daleye & Sherlee Dumby (Shirley Quimby) front panel, June Wilkinson & Leaf rear panel, June Wilkinson reader letters, Copenhagen fiction, camera types, demure blonde, Jayne Mansfield 3pp, Dorie Wesley, blonde in tree, Adriene Parnell outdoors, Pier Angeli, beatnik Kim Smith 1pp, vignettes (Jenny Maxwell, beatnick Cathy Crosby, Bonnie Logan, Kathy Nolan, Joan Bradshaw, Cheryl Kubert). [V1 N2], December 1959: great Iris Bristol & blonde water nymph front panel, reader letters, cheap equipment, cover blonde 4pp, Marianne Gaba wading 4pp, Margia Dean outdoors 2pp, Flicca McKenna 2pp, informal glamour, Amy Hawkins in tree, pixie Wendy Wilde 2pp, activate the model, Adriane 2pp.Each B/W throughout, color wrapper, 50pp, saddle-stapled. Striking Very Good Plus overall.
