The first Westerners Publication with a list of its illustrious membership including Wright Howes, Everett Graff (who also has an important article on the rarest Western travel narratives), and the historians who wrote the classics on Western Americana (especially his tale of how Mrs. Wright Howes and he had played a joke on Wright Howes on the very rare 1843 Joseph Wlliams pamphlet. Printed and bound by John F. Cuneo Co. in gray cloth centrally stamped in gilt with their logo a steer with lettering gilt, spine lettering gilt. A very nice copy.

Colour-illustrated softcovers, beautiful Jazz Age cover art of hikers amongst the mountains & forest (slight shelfwear, very slight rubbing), VG copy. Early printing of this wonderfully illustrated promotional travel brochure for the Southern Pacific, including wonderful photo illustrations of hotels, motels, attractions, beaches, and more.

First edition of this uncommon automobile guide for intrepid motorists driving the route of the Old Oregon Trial from Council Bluffs on the Missouri River to Seaside, Oregon, with sidetrip to Yellowstone National Park, and then into eastern Oregon along the Columbia River finishing up on the scenic Columbia River Highway through the scenic gorge.

Tall 8vo. 4 x 8.75 in. which folds leporello accordion-style out into 17.5 x 24 in. colour map on recto, illustrations, photo illust., index, self-printed title cover on verso (minor toning at fold creases, minor shelfwear), still VG copy. First edition, thus, of this automobile map of Imperial County in Southern California, depicting the Salton Sea, towns of Calexico, El Centro, Imperial, Brawley, Calipatria, Niland, and Holtville, as well as Yuma, AZ, and Mexicali Mexico. The organization was founded in 1909, and quickly gained notice for their handy and detailed motoring maps and guides, as well as all the local historical details they provided. Worldcat locates 2 copies of this printing (Cal. Hist. Soc., BYU).

San Francisco: Alta California Book and Job Office, 1863. First Edition. Original Wraps. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 27p., At the dedication of the Pioneer Hall of the Society of Calfiornia Pioneers, O P Sutton, the President of the Society, gave the inaugural address. He was one of the Forty-Niners who arrived in San Francisco in 1849. He began work in the mines and after failure returned to the city where he established a mercantile business, He participated in the organization of the Democratic Party in California and in 1863 he was elected to the California Legislature. The Oration by Eugene Lies was one of the early settlers of Santa Barbara and he also served in the California Legislature. The book is in good condition with some light dampstaining on pages 25-27. Protected in a heavy duty mylar envelope.
