About This Item

London, England: David Brogue, 1845 Volumes1 and 2 printed in 1845, volume 3 in 1846. Good Plus condition with moderate edge and cover wear. All bindings strong and tight. Three volume set. Volume 1 is the text. Volume 2 contains architectural plates. Volume 3, the companion volume, contains a chronology of Gothic architecture (principally in England), additional plates and an index. All volumes rebound in matching late 19th century 3/4 green leather, green dye faded, on spines back to original brown leather color. Gilt spine lettering bold and bright. Original owner's name embossed in gilt letters on front cover of each volume; later owner's name label inside each volume. All volumes free of notations, underlining, markings, etc. Volumes 1 and 2 have minor foxing on end sheets and slight scattered foxing elsewhere. Volume 3 has moderate foxing at the front of the chronology decreasing to scattered light foxing as the text progresses. Volume 3 contains 39 plates of architectural details, most have light to moderate foxing, a few heavy. The index is lightly foxed.
