Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1974. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Very Good in a Very Good jacket, unclipped ($5.95), generally toned, a few short tears and creases at the edges. Brown cloth with gilt lettering on the spine. Square and firmly bound with a red top stain with some soiling, clean internally. The first Spenser novel, this one having him search for a missing medieval illuminated manuscript.
Synopsis
The first of Robert B. Parker's Spenser Series. Private Investigator Spenser is hired by an unnamed university in Boston to track down a stolen illuminated manuscript from the Middle Ages. The head of a student group seemingly tied to the theft is murdered, and a blond co-ed seems responsible, although Spenser knows there's more to the murder and the theft. The search for the manuscript and the killer uncovers criminal activity within a radical student group, and even after the manuscript is returned the murders continue. Spenser knows that he himself is in danger if he doesn't solve the case.
