John Long Ltd, London, 1937. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Fair Condition/No Dust Jacket. IX, 10-288 pages, last page blank a further eight pages -- further books from publishing house, publisher's foreword and list of illustrations and index. Black and white photographic frontispiece, of author. Within text there are seven black and white photographs and one map. Yellow coloured cloth covered boards with black embossed titles to the front panel and backstrip. This is the memoirs of Leslie Robert Menzies, who went to New Zealand from his home land of America and then from there followed the gold rush to Australia. With his courage and fearlessness was put into positions of power and responsibility exploring and opening up new areas for farmlands and mineral deposits. Heavy bumping, rubbing and fraying to the book corners and to the head and to the heel of the backstrip. Water marks to three quarters of the front panel and backstrip with a few spots to the back panel. Handling marks to the book panels and Browning and foxing to the text block edges and throughout the text original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down. Cracking of the hinge between the frontispiece and half title page. The frontispiece has become detached from the rest of the text block. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
