About This Item

New York: The H. K. Fly Company, 1916 . First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 7.5" by 5". John Sloan; C. D. Williams. A very scarce, first edition of this science-fiction novel by American author and explorer, George Allan England. First edition, bound in the publisher's original cloth. Very scarce work. Written by American author and explorer, George Allan England, who was known for his science-fiction novels and for his socialist themes. This novel is an important example of science-fiction being used as political propaganda, with E. F. Bleiler describing the novel as "More lively and better written than most of England's socially-oriented fiction, but with many long essay sections on war and the munitions industry" ('Science-fiction: the Early Years' 1990) .Illustrated with four plates by American painter and etcher, John Sloan, and a frontispiece by American illustrator C. D. Williams. Collated, complete. Bound in the publisher's original cloth. Externally, very good indeed, with light bumping to the extremities. Slight fading and discolouration of the cloth to the spine and extremities. Internally, binding is a little tender after the title page, with cords visible, but is otherwise firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
