BINDING/CONDITION: dark green boards with tan cloth at the spine; the corners and edges are well rubbed; the rear board has a chip to the top spine; the interior is very good, the hinges are sound, some darkening to portions of the endpapers; a Good book, no dust jacket.. 8vo (9.25 inches tall) . Description: Prefatory materials by James D Phelan, John F Davis, Sidney Edward Mezes, Carl I Wheat, Robert E Cowan, Oscar Lewis, and Mrs Frederick H Colburn. Small b&w chapter head and tail-piece decorations. This was the First Prize Essay in the James D Phelan Historical Essay Contest. This first edition was limited to 1125 copies, consisting of 125 collector's editions on Japan paper and 1000 copies on India antique paper. This is the latter.
