Publisher's cream card covers, green and red marbled dust jacket, paper title label printed in black to front panel. An excellent example, virtually pristine. Sullivan, pp. 257-62 (Calling Le Fanu "the premier ghost story writer of the nineteenth century"). Clute & Grant, p. 571. First published anonymously in The Dublin University Magazine, in January, 1862, and never reprinted in any form until this Tragara Press edition. Mc Cormack set out the case for Le Fanu's authorship in 1980, in Sheridan Le Fanu and Victorian Ireland, pp. 278-79. M. R. James described Le Fanu as "absolutely in the first rank as a writer of ghost stories." Three of his best-known works are the locked-room mystery Uncle Silas, the lesbian vampire novella Carmilla, and the historical novel The House by the Churchyard. N. B. With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, with dust jackets carefully preserved in archival, removable mylar sleeves. All orders are packaged with care and posted promptly. Satisfaction guaranteed.
