London: B. T. Batsford, 1880. 1st Edition. Decorative Cloth. Good/No Jacket. Extremely beautiful book in Original Cream cloth cover with red and black designs of birds, flowers, fan etc. Black and Gilt Lettering and decoration. Beveled Edges. Top Page Edges Gilt. Beautifully Illustrated Title Page in Brown and Gold followed by Printed Title Page with small colour illustration of a flying Crane. Dedicatory page illustrated with silver bamboo. Preface Illustrated with B&W Woodcut of flying Crane; List & Description of Plates followed by text pages illustrated with woodcuts. The rest of the book consists of the fabulous Full Page Plates, some in Colour, Some with Gold and Silver and some in Black & White. The binding is loose and 7 of the plates are missing. First is an alphabetical series in Black & White, A to G (Plate B is missing. Next are Numbered Plates from 1 to 58, (6 of these are missing, 13, 14, 15, 19, 41 & 58). 15" Tall. No inscriptions. Some edge wear to cover and small library labels at bottom of spine. Nice old "Exeter Library" Bookplate pasted to floral endpaper. No other library marks. Pages slightly age darkened but not foxed. Plates clear. One page has a small marginal closed tear. If you would like any more pictures or information please ask. Size: Folio - over 12 - 15" tall
