About This Item

Paris, France: Editions du Square, 1979. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 4to 11" - 13" tall. A good-looking, structurally sound copy, stuffed with black-and-white comic book panels, with photographs and other illustrations, illustrated endpapers front and rear. Moderate wear to, some rubbing of, scuffing to pictorial covers, but with clean, bright, colorful, unmarked interior. The Wikipedia entry devoted to Jean Maurice Jules Cabut (13 January 1938 – 7 January 2015), known by the pen-name Cabu, notes that the French comic strip artist and caricaturist, Caby, was outright "murdered in the January 2015 shooting attack on the Charlie Hebdo newspaper offices in Paris, France." His popular drawn characters include "Le Grand Duduche and adjudant Kronenbourg, and especially Mon Beauf," and his caricatures of stereotypically racist, sexist, vulgar, crude Frenchmen, combined in "beauf" (short for "beau-frere," that is, "brother-in-law"), quickly became part of the cultural and political lexicon. His February 2006 cartoon on Charlie Hebdo depicted Muhammad crying "'C'est dur d'être aimé par des cons!' ('So hard to be loved by jerks!')." He and seven other colleagues, plus two additional police officers and two others were murdered when al-Qaeda gunmen opened fire inside the Charlie Hebdo editorial offices in Paris.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
